A college basketball player has died in a tragic drowning at 22 years old. Deng Mayar, a college basketball player at the University of Nebraska Omaha, was swimming with a friend in Salt Lake City, Utah over the weekend.

Deng Mayar, 22, had recently arrived at the University of Omaha and was making "tremendous progress" before the fatal swimming accident in Utah.

According to the Associated Press, Mayar drowned Saturday in an Utah reservoir. Herriman police responded to a 911 call about Mayar and Sa Mafutaga, 21, who were in distress, the AP reports.
