A seventh-inning rally was for naught as the Tigers' bullpen gave up six runs in the eighth in a 9-4 loss to Washington.

Detroit Tigers rookie reliever Dylan Smith was optioned to Triple-A Toledo between games of Wednesday’s doubleheader in Washington. The move came just moments after Smith was awarded his first career win for throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings in the Tigers’ 11-2 victory in Game 1 at Nationals Park.

The game on Tuesday, July 1 vs. the Nationals has been called off because of rain and there will be doubleheader Wednesday.
