President Trump said the issues of Taiwan, Russian oil and Nvidia’s advanced Blackwell chip weren’t raised during his wide-ranging meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea on Thursday.

The self-ruled island is less of a priority for the US leader and could affect others playing the ‘Taiwan card’, analysts say.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to press the U.S. to shift its policy on Taiwan when he meets this week with President Donald Trump, who is pushing for a trade deal.

Taiwan Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung said on Tuesday that he was not worried that U.S. President Donald Trump would "abandon" the island in his meeting this week with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.

CBC News visited Taiwan’s Kinmen islands, which are just a few kilometres across the bay from the Chinese city of Xiamen. The islands have been on the frontline of hostilities between China and Taiwan for more than seven decades.
