Gvardiol was forced off after 51 minutes following a tangle with Malo Gusto, while Guardiola confirmed that Dias’ subsitution in the 81st minute was also enforced. City are back in league action in just three days at home to Brighton, and Guardiola suggested that both will likely miss the encounter.

Josko Gvardiol and Roben Dias both went off injured during the 1-1 draw with Chelsea. Gvardiol had to be helped off after an awkward collision on the halfway line early in the second half. Dias left the action going into the final stages.

Arsenal resisted a late fightback from Brighton to keep hold of first place in the Premier League, but Manchester City and Aston Villa are in hot pursuit.

Manchester City lost a lead, a point, and maybe a lot more in a span of 41 minutes of Sunday, as star defenders Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias were injured prior in a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium.

City led for more than half of the game but failed to make the most of what was, overall, a dominant performance. Tijjani Reijnders scored the breakthrough goal shortly before the interval, but Erling Haaland also struck the post and other chances weren’t taken.
