A GoFundMe campaign created to support the family of the Minneapolis woman killed by an ICE agent on Jan. 7 was closed Jan. 9 at $1.5 million.

"Renee was pure sunshine, pure love. She will be desperately missed," wrote the organizers of the viral fundraiser.

Mattie Weiss, who organized a GoFundMe fundraiser for Renee Nicole Good, is facing severe backlash. The campaign was launched only hours after the 37-year-old mom of three was fatally shot by an ICE agent, Jonathan Ross, in a residential area of Minneapolis.

Specifically, according to GoFundMe, while anyone can set up a campaign, the money cannot be released until the recipient’s identification is verified. Additional checks are made by human experts and software. All donations are guaranteed 100% against suspected fraud.

The crowd-funding page appeared shortly after Good was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. It now has more than 50,000 donors.

The fundraiser — which received $1,503,533 from about 38,000 donations — was set up Wednesday to support Good’s widowed wife and three children after the 37-year-old was shot dead when she plowed her SUV into the immigration officer who fired the fatal shot during a raucous protest in Minneapolis.

Following Good’s death, thousands of locals attended vigils and protests honoring her life and urging ICE to leave the state. Their calls were echoed by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz . And Colorado Governor Jared Polis, leader of Good's home state, has also called for a full investigation into her death.
